WELCOME TO THE APPENDIX
  • Joel is, of course, right to distrust me.

I think a forum is a great idea!
  • Just wanted to thank you for all the great articles. In particular your shooting gallery piece (I know that was a while ago) really opened my eyes to some great stuff and made me think a little more deeply beyond my love for glowey vector graphics. I'm going through the link drag now...
  • Nobody trusts Eric. He's a secret Viking. But he smells of cookies, so we have to accept him. Mmm, cookies.
  • The previous comment was a lie. I was merely testing out my new account.
  • @manylegged, thanks! It's always nice to hear that readers have got something out of the pieces.

It's fascinating to see many people signing up for the site who are unfamiliar to me. I'm already feeling like the forum was a good idea!

I'll definitely be posting little announcements down here that I was uncomfortable burning into a site post (like a Pause "no post this week"). And also canvassing opinion from time to time.
  • That's a pretty harsh test, Jonas. Maybe I'll test banning next!
  • Vikingphobe!

I'm glad you decided to put up a forum. The ED comments have always been very good, so I'm hoping this will be a nice place. Even if I get banned for mentioning the secret of Eric's deliciousness.
  • You might know that Richard was pushing the idea during IndieCade East last year. I resisted. And the idea of a phpBB forum... Yuk.

I've liked Vanilla in the past and seeing it was packaged in my Web server meant it was a shoe in.
  • I like the cleanness of this forum, HM. AR tried a phpBB forum in its first year and dear god, the spam, the spam!

If manual account approval prevents that scenario recurring here then I'm all for it.
  • Hey Joel, is it possible to quote posts? That would make this even more useful!

I know, I know. You resist a forum, for literally, YEARS, and finally you make one and we get all demanding not even 24 hours after it launches.
  • Jonas, only my name is of Scandinavian origin. I come from Irish peasant stock. As well as probably French immigrants who came to America in the 18th Century. So shut it.
  • I don't know if quoting is possible, as the forum's design aims to cut down bloat and repetition.

What I can tell you is that if I write @Eric_Brasure it should notify you that I referred to you. Unless you switched that notification off.

@ShaunCG I did consider an invitation only system which is also available...
  • Oh okay. Well that might work okay then!
  • I think I've found a quotes plugin so I will try that tonight. This isn't like WordPress you know, I have to copy files around :-)
  • Hooray! When do I get cookies?
  • Oh god that picture is so big I'm sorry
  • I've been busy with Fear of Twine--I have either been at work, debugging, writing emails, or asleep; I am having the best time but I haven't had time to post any forum stuff!

That will change after next week! What a time to make a forum, Goodwin!
  • @rgoodness, I pushed myself to make the forum now because I don't know if the Twines are going to drum up "some business". There are other changes I want to make over the weekend.

  • Well, @Eric_Brasure, if you insist that we may only discuss using facts and logic and not spurious categorization based on arbitrary markers, this forum is going to be... pretty sweet, actually.
  • HM, are you going to maintain your habit of responding to everyone who comments, even in the Appendix?

  • No. Yet this comment disproves that theory.

I suspect, if the forum does well, it won't be possible to keep up with all the conversations here. That was intention with Open Mike as well but towards the end I felt that someone needed to come in and keep an interesting conversation going.

But I want to ensure this place is seen as part of Electron Dance, so I don't intend to retreat from public view...
