Appendectomy: Closing the forum
I don't know, ED attracts a fun bunch of people, but somehow none of us seem to be into "generic discussion" - we respond better to specific articles. So maybe you were right from the beginning.

I keep playing half of a game, then just sort of getting tired. Have I lost the ability to enjoy text games? Maybe I'm just not in the right mood lately.

(Of course, we can always hope things will go differently just this once, but I'm tired, so tired of this. It even saps my enjoyment of the games themselves after a while. Sigh.) To get back on track: my favourite so far is Zest, but maybe I…

Oh dear God, that thread. How depressing. Yet another perfectly friendly community torn apart by someone claiming they're "unsafe" (in a digital space!). The triumph of the more-subaltern-than-thou ideology that is the very opposite o…

I enjoyed The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. A small game, but pretty solid, despite its confuzzled history.

I'm still using Pinnacle Studio, which is just daft. I've tried more expensive software, but the interface usually makes me scream with anger. GUIs designed by programmers are not good for my blood pressure. Maybe it's gotten better …

I'm playing Fallen London again. Wish it wasn't a browser game. Will get Sunless Sea at some point. Played a bit of XCOM. It's better than I thought it would be, but the lack of freedom does irritate me. Had to restart 14 hours in wh…

I love it when they screw up their grenade throws, especially because grenades are so fucking dangerous in this game. Why should I be the only one who screws up a throw, anyway?

I've never had problems with the AI. I'm always quite happy when it decides to do something stupid, because I'll take any advantage I can get.

I'm playing SoC with the Complete mod, which updates the graphics, fixes bugs and adds some useful features (sleep, repair), and I have to say it's absolutely lovely.

Have I mentioned that the STALKER games are fucking brilliant? Because they are. (I shudder to think what they will be like when Bethesda inevitably reboots them.)

I just did. It's not that hard! I wish the ending was a little longer and more detailed, but I had a very good time overall. (Took me 8 hours, and I was quite thorough.)

Amalur is definitely getting to that Oblivion-esque point of "too many quests!" I think games like these would benefit from having a much larger percentage of quests show up as result of advancing the main plot. It would make the world fee…

*like* I suggest we keep making games about dragons until we've covered every colour of the spectrum.

See, the English-like nature of Inform confuses me more than it helps me, because I feel it actually makes things *more* complicated. English can be structured in all kinds of ways, most of which won't work in Inform. Writing "Observatory …

Some of the tutorials are out of date. Verena also had some problems because of that. As someone who has a fair amount of game-making experience (more than a decade, Jesus Christ...), I can say that making games with Twine *is* quite different. Sur…

I played it when it came out. I remember thinking the graphics were too goofy, but then I got used to them, and now I'm kind of fond of them. In a way, the game seems innocent, driven by enthusiasm for RPGs.

Might & Magic VI is brilliant. I've played it to completion three whole times. VII is also a lot of fun (and has some great ideas), though I prefer Enroth to Erathia as a setting. Silly as the graphics may be, once you've played these…
